UNION ALERT! STRIKE ACTION HAS BEEN CALLED OFF BY GNAT EXECUTIVES

The three pre-tertiary education teacher unions; the Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) were fuming over what they say are hostile conditions of service for teachers in Ghana. These issues are basically in relations to teaching and learning resources, contact and working hours, upgrading of teachers, and issues regarding promotions.

The teacher unions even warned the government that, if their concerns are not addressed by the close of September 2021, they will lay down their tools.

“We, the teacher unions are hereby serving notice that if by the close of September 2021, all these issues are not resolved in full by the employer, then we will have no option than to advise ourselves in the best interest of our members within the framework of our collective agreement and the applicable laws of Ghana.”

But to the surprise of the teachers, the unions have taken a “U TURN” now, an SMS is circulating on the phones of teachers;

 “UNION ALERT!

Dear Comrades, following the trade Unions Press Conference on 10/08/21, we were summoned by the NLC and directed that GES & Unions iron out all the issues by 17/11/21 and report same to the NLC.

God bless you.

Thomas T. Musah

General Secretary - GNAT”

UNION ALERT! STRIKE ACTION HAS BEEN CALLED OFF BY GNAT EXECUTIVES

Are these unions making fun of the class room teachers? Are they at fault for negotiating for only 4% increment in teachers salaries or they just don't care about the class room teachers. Remember teachers dues are always deducted to pay the leaders to fight for the class room teachers but do you really see that happening? Are the teacher unions teeth less bulldogs who can not bit?

  1. Union leaders who don't have concern for their members, imagine this, put yourselves into the shoes of the teachers who worked some years only to be paid three months and these so called leaders cannot fight for what is legitimate to their members is a big shame on you. Pls don't keep annoying the teachers who were victims of this policy. U have to sit up and think well for ur members. Is because of the members u are made leaders . Don't make urself u so low for everyone to step on .
