WE ARE NOT RETURNING TO THE STUDY HALL–DR. SAMUEL NKUMBAAN UTAG PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF GHANA
Though the Labour Division Court has been granted an interlocutory injunction against the industrial action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on the 15th February 2022.
The Leadership of the University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association (UTAG), lead by their president Dr. Samuel Nkumbaan, has demonstrated that the aggrieved lecturers won't be getting back to the study hall on Wednesday, February 16, notwithstanding a court administering on Tuesday, February 15.
“In light of insight into the court's procedures on Tuesday, the considerable matter has not been heard, and consequently we and our partners can't continue their authority obligations.”
“Our attorneys will be in the situation to exhort us.” He expressed.
Leader of the University of Ghana Chapter of the University Teachers Association (UTAG), Dr. Samuel Nkumbaan, also stated that, they are not returning to the study hall.
“We can't state right now that we're returning to the study hall tomorrow," he expressed on the top story hosted by Evans Mensah.
The president offered these remarks in response to a court order by the Labor Division of the Accra High Court on Tuesday, February 15.
UTAG has been on strike since January 10, 2022, in demand for better conditions of service. The National Labour Commission dragged UTAG to court after an attempts to have UTAG call off its strike failed.
The Labour Division of the Accra High Court on two occasions ordered both parties to adopt an out-of-court settlement, but the engagements ended inconclusively. The court as at 15th February 2022 has ordered the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to suspend the strike activity and return to the arrangement table.
The courts proceedings have been adjourned to February 22, 2022, at 1:30pm.
