GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE DISMISSES A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER OVER AN ALLEGED RAPE CASE

Reports from the Northern Region indicates that one Mr. Imoro Eliasu a Junior High School Teacher has been sacked by Ghana Education Service.


The Teacher identified as Mr Imoro Eliasu who was rendering his service at Dakpema M/A Junior High School (JHS) in Tamale allegedly led the young female student into the staff office to have sexual intercourse with her, but the female pupil violently refused.


The female student whose name has been withdrawn said his former teacher, Mr Imoro Eliasu allegedly discharged some substance believed to be semen on her.


Speaking to the newspapers, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of GES, Mr Amatus D Tug-uu said the victim reported the incident to a female teacher in the school who, together with the headteacher, reported it to the police.


“The victim was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical examination and was detected that the substance discharged on her was said to be semen which suggested that she was sexually assaulted” he added.

“On the direction of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the Northern Regional Director, Dr. Peter Attafuah, has ordered the teacher’s removal from the service immediately.

Mr. Eliasu has been granted police inquiry bail awaiting further investigations for prosecution by the Northern Regional Office of the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).


The teacher’s interdiction was directed by the Northern Regional Director, Dr Peter Attafuah on the advice of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.


Your alleged misconduct of sexual assault on the student is against the code of conduct of GES as it was subsequently reported to the police for investigation and prosecution. You have therefore been interdicted”.


According to the Police,  the immediate sacked staff had been charged with sexual assault and had since been granted police enquiry bail by the court, pending further investigation.
