GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE NEWLY APPROVED CONTACT HOURS NEGOTIATED AND AGREED BY THE TEACHER UNIONS
The three teacher unions in the basic education sector called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to withdraw the new policy that aimed at changing the trimester to a semester-based academic calendar for broader consultation.
The unions consisting of NAGRAT, GNAT and CCT-GH fiercely resisted the policy of government to change the trimester system to semester.
“We, therefore, call on the GES to immediately withdraw the policy, pending full consultations with the Unions in Education and other major stakeholders and to serve notice, that failure to do so would be resisted fiercely,” they said.

Following the concerns raised by Teacher Unions on the 2021/2022 Academic Calendar regarding the semester system, contact hours and the number of weeks (forty-three (43)) and subsequent to the negotiations between the Teacher Unions and GES; the following were arrived at:
1. PREVIOUS CONTACT HOURS
7:00am to 3:30pm or
7:30am to 4:00pm or
8:00am to 4:30pm
2. NEGOTIATED AND AGREED CONTACT HOURS WITH GES
i. 7:00am to 2:00pm, or
ii. 7.30am to 2:30pm, or
iii. 8.00am to 3:00pm.
3. The Academic Calendar has been restored to the Trimester System.
4. Number of weeks reviewed from forty three (43) Weeks to forty (40) Weeks.
